Privacy Policy

Effective October 21, 2026

GPSforFamily is a free family location-sharing app for iPhone and Android, published by postmcpai (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what the apps, our server at api.gpsforfamily.com and this website collect, why, who can see it, how long it is kept and how to delete it. Questions: hello@postmcpai.com.

The short version

Signing in

You sign in with Sign in with Apple (iPhone) or Google Sign-In (iPhone and Android). There is no GPSforFamily password. Apple or Google confirms who you are on your phone and passes us a signed token, which our server verifies. From it we keep your name, your email address (with Apple this can be a private relay address if you chose to hide yours), the provider’s account ID and, for Google, your profile photo address. We never see your Apple or Google password. For Sign in with Apple we also keep the token Apple issues for your sign-in so that we can revoke the app’s access to your Apple ID when you delete your account.

Location, battery and network

When location sharing is on and you have given permission, the app sends your position (latitude, longitude, accuracy, speed, direction and the time it was recorded) to our server, together with your phone’s battery level, whether it is charging, and its network type (Wi-Fi, cellular or offline). Updates are sent as you move — roughly every 25 metres — in small batches.

If you allow it, sharing continues in the background when the app is closed: on iPhone when you choose “Always” for location (iOS shows its location indicator while this happens), and on Android through a location service that shows a persistent notification. You can pause sharing at any time in the app (More → Share my location); while it is paused, our server also ignores any location it receives from your account. You can also change or withdraw location permission in your phone’s settings.

Safe zones and alerts

Safe zones (for example Home or School) are a name, an optional address, a centre point, a radius and an icon that someone in your circle saves. Safe zones are checked on our server, not on your phone: each location update is compared with your circle’s safe zones, and arriving or leaving creates an alert. The server also creates an alert when your battery drops to 15% or below and you are not charging. Alerts record the person, the place or battery level and the location at that moment.

SOS. When you hold the SOS button, an alert with your current location appears in your circle’s Alerts feed and is pushed to the members you have chosen as SOS contacts (by default, everyone). SOS alerts go to your family only — they do not contact emergency services.

Who can see your information

Only the people in the family circles you belong to. They can see your family nickname, colour and photo, your latest location and the safe zone you are in, when it was last updated, your battery level and charging state, your network status, and your arrivals, departures, low-battery and SOS alerts. If you ask to join a circle with its shared code, that circle’s administrators see your name, email address and photo so they can approve or decline you.

Circles are joined with a six-character code. Only share it with people you mean to invite; administrators can approve or decline join requests, remove members and change the code.

Push notifications

On both iPhone and Android, notifications are sent through Firebase Cloud Messaging, a Google service (on iPhone it delivers through Apple’s push notification service). If you allow notifications, the app registers a push token with our server. The notification text — for example “Sarah arrived at School” — passes through Google’s and Apple’s notification services to reach your family’s phones. You can turn notifications off in your phone’s settings; the alerts still appear in the app’s Alerts tab.

Invitation emails

If you type someone’s email address to invite them, we send them one email containing your name, your circle’s name and a single-use code that expires after 7 days. The email is sent from our Google (Gmail) account. We store the address with the invitation and use it for nothing else. Please only invite people who expect to hear from you.

What we do not collect

The app does not access your contacts, photos, camera, microphone or advertising identifier, and it does not track you across other apps or websites. It contains no advertising or analytics SDKs.

How we use information

Only to run GPSforFamily: to sign you in, show your family where everyone is, check safe zones, send alerts and SOS notifications, deliver invitations, keep the service secure, and fix problems. We do not sell personal information, share it with advertisers or data brokers, or use it to build advertising profiles.

Service providers

We use a small number of providers to run the service, and they process data only to provide it:

Our own internal admin tools receive a notice when a new account is created (name, email address and sign-in method) and when an SOS is raised (the member’s family nickname and circle name), plus server error reports, so that we can operate and support the service. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep data

Deleting your account

In the app, open the More tab, tap Delete account and confirm. Your account is deleted straight away, and if you used Sign in with Apple, the app’s access to your Apple ID is revoked. Deletion removes your profile, push tokens, location history, alerts and SOS records, and your membership in every circle. A circle where you were the only member is closed along with its safe zones, alerts and invitations. If you no longer have the app, see Delete your account to ask us by email. You can also leave a circle from the More tab without deleting your account.

Your choices and rights

You can pause location sharing, withdraw location or notification permission, leave a circle, remove safe zones, or delete your account at any time. To ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion of specific data (such as your location history) without closing your account, email hello@postmcpai.com from the address you sign in with. We will respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local law, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Children

GPSforFamily is for families who choose to share their location with one another. A child should use the app only with the knowledge and consent of a parent or guardian, who can manage the circle and remove the child at any time. We do not knowingly collect information from a child without that consent; if you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The apps talk to our server over HTTPS. Every request is tied to your signed-in account and limited to the circles you belong to, and attempts to guess join codes are rate limited. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and keep only what the service needs.

This website

The interactive preview on this site uses fictional sample data. The website never asks for your location, creates no account and has no forms. We use buyflow.io, a lightweight analytics service, to count visits: it records the pages you view, outbound links you click, the referring site and campaign tags, and whether you are on a phone, tablet or computer, using a random identifier kept in your browser’s local storage (no cookies). It does not run when your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. The home page footer shows a badge image loaded from saasworldmap.com, which receives the standard information any web request carries (your IP address and browser type). Our hosting provider may also keep standard request logs, such as IP addresses, for security.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect.
